Regarding music gear, it all begins with the guitar—of course : tone wood, pickups, and how the guitar is setup to play; including (but, not limited to) that of preferred action, truss rod adjustment, pickup height and string choice. Personally, these factors come before the selection of “amplifier” and effects pedals in the signal chain.
